Burgdorf’s May Wine Events

Over the past month, we had the opportunity to participate in three wonderful wine events: Woldumar Nature Center’s Petals and Vines, Potter Park’s Wine and Stein, and MIS Great Lakes Wine Fest! These events are such a blast to be a part of. There’s food, entertainment, beer and wine – what more could you ask for? Oh, beautiful weather, you say? We had that too!

If you haven’t been to Lansing’s Woldumar Nature Center, then you’re definitely missing out! This year was the first round of Petals and Vines and it was fantastic. Local Michigan breweries and wineries were set up throughout the venue and the setting was lovely with music playing in the background and patrons wandering around the grounds and checking out all the vendors. We hope to be a part of it again next year!

Potter Park Zoo’s Wine and Stein is a bi-annual event (this was the 4th Wine & Stein event) and it seems to grow more popular each year! Local Michigan food and drink vendors were set up amongst the paths around the animal enclosures so patrons could enjoy the local fare while watching the animals play in the sunshine. Music by the The Tenants kept the energy moving and we all had a great time! We can’t wait for the next one, and if you missed it this time around, keep your eyes peeled for the fall Wine & Stein and next year’s!
MIS Great Lakes Wine Fest is an annual event that featured over 50 breweries and wineries from Michigan and Midwest, along with food, crafts, and presentations from various owners. This was the third year this festival has run and it is definitely a hit that will keep on going! Last year drew around 3000 people, and this year the weather seemed to pull out even more people! Our Blueberry was our star of the day and seemed to hit the spot with its light, refreshing nature. Thanks to everyone who came out to sip some of our wine amongst the huge selection!

2012 Tasters Guild International Wine Competition Awards!

IMG_0771 2-1920

We just received the announcement of the award results from the 2012 Tasters Guild International Wine Competition and we’re so excited!

We are SO excited about our now Golden Temptation catching the attention of the judges and snagging a Gold medal! This wine is truly unique as a late harvest Vidal that we aged in French Oak. It creates a “Moment in Wine” that is almost impossible to describe and surprises everyone who tastes it. Are you curious? Come in to the tasting room to give it a test run!

We also want to give a big CONGRATS to our Pioneer Wine Trail buddy, Flyer Otter Vineyard & Winery, who also grabbed some medals!
  • Bronze medal for Starboard
  • Bronze medal for Northern Lights
  • Silver medal for Noiret

Cheddar & Wine Soup

This Cheddar & Wine Soup was created by The Country House Catering of Okemos especially to pair with our Dry Riesling during the Pioneer Wine Trail’s Michigan Wine Celebration.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds American Cheese Loaf
  • 7 ¼ cups half and half
  • 2 ½ cups Heavy Whipping cream
  • ¾ cups Burgdorf’s Dry Riesling
  • 1 ½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ¾ tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 tsp chicken base
  • 2.5 pounds Michigan potatoes
  • 1 cup spanish onions
  • 1.5 cups carrots

Directions:

Heat the American Cheese Loaf, Half & Half, Heavy Whipping Cream, Burgdorf’s Dry Riesling, Worcestershire Sauce, Hot Sauce, and Chicken Base until the cheese is melted and it comes ALMOST to a boil. Remove and cool.

Cook the potatoes, onions, and carrots in water until Al Dente.

Heat cheese soup and add cooked vegetables. Stir and serve warm.

Serves approximately 10.
